First institute who the supplier is! It seems inevitable but there are many routes to buying products in China through agents, trading companies, wholesalers and factories or any estimate of "back door" sources. Agents control on a commission basis whilst trading fellowships comprise costs in the quoted price, most wholesalers and factories do not have export approvals so have to control through a registered agent or trading enterprise to export to you at all.

In my perceive almost every sales someone that I have met in China who is not the owner of the enterprise has shown interest in either setting up on his own by "stealing" his employer's customers and product designs or simply doing his own deals on the side through friends, contacts or family.

On the internet there are many scams and dubious "traders". But accepting that you are lucky or diligent enough to find a legitimate agent/trading company, you will find that Chinese enterprise ethics are very different. Most Chinese friends and contacts, that I have spoken to on the subject, believe that "cheating" is the name of the game for people in business.

Negotiating the price is an art form poorly practiced in the West in my view. no ifs ands or buts in road purchases in China you may well think that you have done well to sell out the price first quoted by 20% or more (often the general negotiating "add-on" is 50% in road markets) this form can be very much higher for foreigners. Whilst the situation may be quite a bit dissimilar for more formal purchasing the principals are much the same.

But then there are all the "extras" like packing materials, printing and minor changes, inland costs etc which can be used to hike the price back up, or a perhaps a worse scenario is the convention of cutting corners on materials and potential to secure the lost margin.

Having a good feel for the all inclusive price from a estimate of suppliers for the definite product you want gives you the purchasing power to negotiate and buy the right product from your premium supplier at a inexpensive price hopefully without any "extras".

Payment terms are more often than not 30% down cost with the residue on completion of manufacture. But beware the requests for cost in full with a money order, these payments are to individuals and commonly are not traceable once made. No terms, no protection and probably no goods and only bitter perceive to be gained!

Are the prices quoted ex-works, Fob, Cif, delivered storage - what has been agreed and who pays and at what stage? Who raises the shipping documents, packing list and commercial invoice and will these documents enable you to clear the goods at the port of destination, assuming the goods exist in the first place never mind either they are of merchantable potential when they arrive?

Developing long term relationships with a few suppliers who you know well pays dividends. Not only will there be limited or no warranties but worse you risk serious legal action and perhaps a criminal conviction if you cannot show proof of proprietary of the brand name or an deal exists from the brand owner when you import.

As appealing as you may think that buying from China appears, the anticipation of selling to the West by fresh employees in China sounds just too good to be true! Suppliers in China, like everywhere else, come in many shapes and sizes, from huge State Owned Enterprises (Soes) Joint Ventures (Jvs) with Western and/or Asian partners, incommunicable companies, fully owned Foreign Enterprises (Wfes) and house businesses. It's not going to advantage you by going to the biggest state owned group of factories in China if you intend to order only a few cartons a month. Likewise the small house enterprise won't cope, though they may say they will, with 20 or 30 packaging a week.

The Chinese Way

I have often been told "ah! but we do it the Chinese way here"

I believe that one of the most difficulties for newcomers complex in importing from China is arrival to terms with the fact that doing enterprise in China is very dissimilar to doing enterprise in the West. The mental processes, ethics, morals, life experiences, expectations, culture, politics, laws, education, and government involvement in daily enterprise life is very very dissimilar and not at all easy to predict even by long in the tooth, experienced ex-patriates from the West let alone newcomers.

Here is as an understanding to some dissimilar mental from my personal experience.

In many factories in South and Eastern China shop floor employees are mostly migrant workers from poor rural areas. They speak their native language and may struggle to chronicle with the city dwellers around them. Their living accommodation, food, clothing, recreation and welfare, such that it is, will commonly be in case,granted by the employer. The wages paid in cash are commonly very low as a result. Workers may only voyage home once a year. commonly there is no study available for migrant worker's children in many of the big cities so money is sent home where the house is based.

Consequently the enterprise cost basis is very dissimilar to the West and would be carefully more like an overhead than a variable cost in Western accounting terms. It is likely that the success of the factory, if of any size at all it will have direct government involvement, and may well be measured by the estimate of people employed rather than the financial performance.

Several Chinese friends have explained to me that discarding litter in the road provides jobs for those who have to pick it up and I sometimes no ifs ands or buts wonder if faulty product also creates those extra jobs too! A cynical viewpoint not to be taken too seriously but perhaps provides an inkling of inherent dissimilar logic, value and mental patterns.

Branded Products

Many very well known, high potential Branded products are made in China. Some of the largest and most thriving manufacturers of Chinese products that are best known in the World are often made by Joint Ventures or fully owned Foreign Enterprises.

These products are man-made to very high standards in factories with pro management and high levels of investment in plant, people and processes. The products are world class and sold and marketed by the Brand owner.

These Branded products are not no ifs ands or buts available to non-approved importers and if they are offered to you in China they are no ifs ands or buts fake copies or stolen or simply similar product with a celebrated logo attached. Chinese copyright law exists but has not yet caught up with the thousands upon thousands of fellowships that copy other's products either unsolicited for domestic or export consumption or as requested by foreign importers.

Don't be fooled..... It is illegal to import or sell these products in Europe and a criminal offence with severe sentences and penalties

Summary

Whilst you may have got some very negative vibes from this record that is not my intent. The future for manufacturing is in China. enterprise is done very successfully here by resourceful, competent very able and very willing enterprise partners that no ifs ands or buts want to make it happen for you and themselves in the long term and on a reliable and thriving basis.

My intent is to add to your awareness of how dissimilar things may be, just don't throw away tasteless sense with your enthusiasm. Others make it happen so can you!

In the third post of a series of three on the New York Rangers system, we profile the 7 Ontario Hockey League alumni that are playing for the big team. There were 9 Ohl grads on the Rangers' Echl affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers and 8 Ohl grads on the Rangers Ahl affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

The always controversial, Sean Avery, played in the Ontario Hockey League from 1996-97 to 1999-00. He began his Ohl work with the Owen Sound Platers and switched to the Kingston Frontenacs midway straight through the 1998-99 season.

Ryan Callahan wears the 'A' for the Rangers. Callahan had a very prosperous work with the Guelph Storm from 2002-03 to 2005-06. Marc Staal is one of three Staal brothers currently playing in the Nhl with one brother, Jared, currently in the Ohl. After 4 seasons in the Ohl with the Sudbury Wolves, beginning in 2003-04, Marc went directly to the Rangers, the team that drafted him in the first round, 12 farranging in 2005.

Alex Auld was between the pipes for the North Bay Centennials from 1997-98 to 2000-01. A Florida Panthers draft pick, Alex started his Nhl work in Vancouver with the Canucks. In 2006-07, he would return to the team that drafted him and play a season with the Panthers. Patriot Gamer Series Ram

I recently purchased a Patriot Gamer Series kit. It's the 4 gig Ddr3 type that Patriot touts "works flawlessly with Amd Black series processors". I don't have an Amd processor, but I've got a Pentium i7 that's designed for online gaming.

I ordered it back in late May and didn't receive it until June 7, which aggravated me to no extent; but that indeed has no bearing on the performance and reliability of the Ram itself. I was indeed pretty shocked at what I found out.

With the Patriot Gamer Series, I have frequently-over the last join of weeks-attempted to overclock my Dell Xps system. It'll sure get past the 1600Mhz standard, and with flying colors I may add. If you'd like to see the screenshot, just email me and I would be glad to show you.

The "enhanced" latency of 9-9-9-24 approximately sounded too good to be true, especially inspecting my past experiences dealing with Ddr2 (as well as the inheritance Ddr1). But, Alas, it passed that test as well. I'm not saying it'll all the time be that fast, but it's a pretty good indicator that it's on top of its game.

Henceforth, I feel compelled to spin it to a join of other Ram producers-Kingston and Mushkin (a join of other highly-esteemed products, and of which Kingston I've indeed used in the past). What I found out, in summary, is that I can't say that the Patriot modules "far exceeded the other two"-but its undoubtedly right-on par with the other two (with similar configurations).

When I ultimately got it, it arrived in tastefully-designed plastic covers-good for static electricity prevention (which will, subsequently, approximately certify you don't destroy a stick). Other than that, though, and the late delivery issue, it's a well-rounded, awesome product.

Born Rudolph Thomas in Kingston, Jamaica on 12 July 1951, Ruddy Thomas started recording at Studio One in the early 1970s, moved later to Treasure Isle and from 1975 on he was part of Joe Gibbs' studio band, The Professionals, where he worked as a percussionist. In the 1980s he was a busy recording engineer as well as singer on solos on the British Hawkeye label and duets with female reggae singers such as Susan Cadogan. Ruddy Thomas died on 10 June 2006, whilst performing on stage in Port Antonio, JA. It was an untimely end for the musical pioneer who gave Hawkeye label its first number one hit in 1981 with Just One Moment Away, a song which topped the British charts.

A short report on past and present prison cuisine

I have all the time had an interest in food and cooking and it came as a single delight when in my last five years of service, I became head of an Investigation and Audit team in one of London's biggest prisons. Part of the team's task was to seek and report on conditions in prison kitchens.To enable me to undertake the work, I had to do a great deal of research and knowledge convention to enable me to carry out this function. Food handling and hygiene being just one of the basic areas to cover. Food making ready techniques, balanced diets, devotee healing diets are all part of the daily life of a prison, or no ifs ands or buts any other type of institutional kitchen.

Every prison in Britain is inspected by an independent body, Hm Prison Inspectorate, on an irregular basis. Therefore, it is primary that every prison kitchen is organized, maintained and managed at the very highest approved at all times. In the late 1980's, Hm Prison aid lost the protection of, "Crown Immunity". This prevented any form of prosecution through the courts for any infringements of the law. The 'Crown' could never prosecute itself - The Crown verses Crown. In effect, it meant that a prison could now receive severe sanctions for poor operation in any area, particularly condition & protection and catering. It could also mean that the prison kitchen could even be ended down if found to be in a poor state of management, maintenance or hygiene. This was highlighted very clearly in September of 2009 when 370 prisoners at London's largest prison, Hmp Wandsworth were struck down with salmonella poisoning. If a prison kitchen were suddenly ordered to close down, you can imagine the chaos this would cause. Hmp Wandsworth is the largest prison in Western Europe and holds over 1,600 prisoners. How do you provide over 4,800 meals a day at very short notice? The only hope of holding the roof on the jail is to ensure that the urgency Contingency Planners have done their homework and an alternative theory can be brought on line with immediate effect.

How it used to be

Wandsworth Prison was built in 1851. It was one of the earliest London prisons and was originally called the Surrey House of Corrections. Mayhew & Binney, in their 1868 edition of, "Criminal Prisons of London", retell vividly the life inside the London prisons in the 1800's. Food did not seem very high on the agenda of the prison theory at this time. Containment seemed to be the priority. The Surrey House of correction was no ifs ands or buts built to help to sacrifice overcrowding at the Houses of correction at Brixton, Guildford and Kingston, where "jail fever" was rampant and prisoners were dying. When considering the Surrey House of Corrections in 1862, Mayhew and Binney noted the menu and diets of the assorted classes of prisoners held at the prison. Convicted prisoners employed at 'hard labour' for terms exceeding 21 days were allowed the following meals:

Breakfast 1 pint of oatmeal gruel and 6 oz of bread supper Sunday & Thursday 1 pint of soup and 8 oz of bread supper Tuesday & Saturday 3 oz of cooked meat without bone 8 oz bread ½ lb potatoes supper Monday, Wednesday & Friday 8 oz bread and 1 lb of potatoes supper Same as breakfast

As you may well imagine, the low calorific and nutritional values of such a diet would lead to serious condition problems - jail fever.

When I worked at High Down High protection prison in Surrey, we presented the Lord Lieutenant of the County with a framed copy of the formula for Gruel. The Governor of the prison at the time, Stephen Prior, took the Lord Lieutenant and his wife home for dinner, and guess what was first on the menu - prison gruel. He no ifs ands or buts loved it! So much so that he instructed his own chef to add it to his supper party menus to impress his guests (I bet it did!).

This is the primary formula from the Surrey House of Corrections kitchen circa. 1862: Ingredients for Soup and Gruel: The soup to contain, per pint, 3 ounces of cooked meat, without bone, 3 ounces of potatoes, 1 ounce of barley, rice, or oatmeal, and 1 ounce of onions or leeks, with pepper and salt. The gruel to include 2 ounces of oatmeal per pint. The gruel on alternate days to be sweetened with three quarter ounces of molasses or sugar and seasoned with salt.

In seasons when the potato crop has failed, 4 ounces of split peas made into a pudding may be occasionally substituted; but the convert must not be made more than twice in each week. Boys under 14 years of age to be located on the same diet as females.

The female diet was the same as the male prisoner diet with the exception that where the male received 8 oz of bread the female would receive 6 ounces.

For those prisoners serving less than seven days, the menu was very basic: morning meal 1 pint of gruel supper 1 lb of bread supper 1 pint of gruel

These prison diets lasted well into the 1900's and bear no comparison to today's prison food. Modern prisoners wouldn't stand for it and the authorities could never allow it. Even the punishment diet of bread and water was removed from the Prison Rules in the 1960's. The term, "Doing Porridge" still remains an avid report of person who is in prison, referring of course, to the old diet of oatmeal gruel.

How it is now

Modern man requires colse to 2,500 calories each day to mouth body weight, women wish slightly less. In the prisons of the 1800's, a prisoner was lucky to collect 500 calories per day without any opening to increase his intake. Overcrowding - three to a cell built for one and hard labour, soon consumed what dinky vigor the prisoner had. Poor health, body lice and unsanitary conditions all led to the onset of jail fever - epidemic typhus.

Today, as well as obtaining a balanced and salutary prison diet, a prisoner can supplement his diet from the prison shop. Many prisoners are housed in single cells or dormitories and the overcrowding problems of the 1800's no longer exist in our Modern prisons. Modern condition care programmes, bodily fitness programmes and Modern sanitatary conditions have all been introduced in recent years.

In the Uk, a prison catering manager has about £1.87 () to provide food for each inmate every day. Young offender institutions are allowed double this amount at £3.81 () per day. The Modern prison aid of day has located an emphasis on rehabilitation, although how successful this has been is debatable. Part of the restoration process is to teach prisoners how to eat healthily and look after themselves on release. For the prison service's part, new dietary regulations have been introduced in recent years which avoid the onset of condition problems which finally reflect in the prisons condition care budget. Long term prisoners are particularly at risk by poor diet and poor condition care regimes. Diabetes, stroke and obesity-related illnesses are of single concern.

Special diets are catered for now and include Muslim, kosher, Caribbean, diabetic and other healing diets are also provided. Catering managers are now specially trained to prepare these special diets. In many of the establishments I worked in, we even had Muslim and Jewish prisoners working in the kitchen to ensure that the food was cooked and prepared in the approved way. For the feast of Eid, the local mosques would deliver specially prepared food as a gift for Muslim prisoners. Likewise, the rabbi would dispose for kosher food to be delivered whenever Jewish feast days were celebrated. This would never have happened fifty years ago. It is also curios to note, the amount of prisoners who convert to Islam when Ramadan is approaching.

So how have the diets and menus changed over the years. condition and cusine remain a high priority in today's prison kitchen. There has been a vast allowance in fried foods over recent years. Chips with all things no longer applies. An increase in fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrain products and an increase in fish products, along with oily fish have been introduced into prisons not only in Britain but in European and American prison establishments as well.

One of the best fed prisons in the world is in Italy, where prisoners work to furnish organic fruit and vegetables, along with olive oil. The prison has its own state of the art food output areas for manufacturing wine and orchard management. The whole operation is supervised by a expert management team. The prisoners benefit by eating all their own home grown food and are even allowed a small wine allowance to help sacrifice cholesterol levels and may even increase the ability to prevent some forms of cancer. Now, is that progress or what?

There seems to be some blurring as to what exactly prison food entails. As far as the general communal is concerned, some of them still believe that gruel, bread and water is still the main prison diet. There are still many more who say that it should be.

They could not be supplementary from the fact. As we have already stated, vast improvements have already been made to the prison diet. In most prisons in England and Wales, the provide of catering facilities has been privatised. Prisoners now have a choice which they can preselect on a weekly basis, commonly with a choice of three or more main courses. The Christmas menus have improved immensely over the years and now provide prisoners with a much better Christmas supper than they ever would eat surface prison. In many of the lower protection prisons, local pensioners are invited into the prison to eat Christmas supper with the inmates. After all, prisoners are still human beings and many take great pains to ensure that 'granny' and 'granddad' have a nice Christmas dinner.

So how might a Modern prison menu look? First, the morning meal menu. In all English prisons each prisoner receives a morning meal pack which is issued the evening before for use the next morning. This will include a morning meal cereal, milk, tea bags, coffee whitener, sugar, brown or white bread, jam and margarine or butter type spread. They will also receive a weekly allowance of teabags and sugar to make themselves a cup of tea whenever they want to. Each cell will have its own kettle. The daily issue will also include special packs for vegans, vegetarians and assorted religious groups

For the midday and evening meals, nearly every prison now uses a pre-select theory where a list of distinct meals are displayed for each day and every prisoner can order anyone meal he prefers. There are commonly five or six alternatives to select from. Fresh vegetables and fruit are served separately when each meal is collected. The following is just a sample obtained from the London prisons where the pre-select theory has successfully been in operation for nearly ten years: Day one Midday meal Evening meal Vegetarian Pasta Bake Vegetable consummate Chicken & Mushroom pie Chicken consummate Halal Jamaican Beef Patti Halal Chicken Curry Corned beef & Pickle Roll Grilled Gammon Jacket Potato & Coleslaw Pork pie salad

Day Three Vegetarian Sausage & Egg Soya Lasagne Bacon, Sausage & Egg Minced Beef Lasagne Halal Sausage & Egg Halal Beef Italienne Turkey Salad Roll Rice & Bean Stuffed Pepper Salad Jacket Potato and Curried Beans Cheese Salad The pre-select theory has progressed a long way since its introduction. Prisoners now have the opening to take from a range of choices. In the early days if you were not a registered vegetarian, you could not have a vegetarian meal. If you were not a Muslim, you couldn't take a halal dish. Now, things have changed Prisoners can take anyone dish they prefer. They may eat vegetarian one day, halal the next. Its their choice. In general, all prisons have now attempted to embrace the equilibrium of Good condition model (Food Standards branch 2001) and are providing a nutritionally balanced, and salutary diet. We have progressed a long way from the days of bread and water and a cup of gruel. Prisoners are not dying of typhus and malnutrition any more and prisons are much more comfortable and salutary paces to work in - both for prisoners and staff.

What will be the next phase? Will we see the introduction of self catering for prisoners? Each prison having its own supermarket. All prisons have there own version of the 'corner shop' where they can purchase food supplements and dinky luxuries to make life more bearable. It is not too much of a step to provide a supermarket and the means for prisoners to prepare their own food. Most of the catering facilities and prison shops are already privatised. I am sure that Asda or Sainsbury's or Walmart would jump at the opening of having an in-prison store with a captive clientele of nearly 2000 every day.

High Down Prison near London has become the first prison making ready to open a gourmet restaurant inside a prison - and its open to the public. All the kitchen staff are prisoners under training to be chefs ready for issue and seeing employment in the catering trade. Check it out. You will be surprised.

Farther down the scenic route to Kingston is Discovery Bay which is home to the Green Grotto Caves. These caves offer a historical view of the native Taino Arawak lifestyle. Before ending your road trip, make a southern detour to Spanish Town. Spanish Town is the previous Spanish and English capital of Jamaica. In this historic town you will find one of the oldest Anglican churches exterior of England.

What is buyer service? Really, what is buyer service? Because I am getting to think some clubs do not understand the opinion and can't deliver it. An easy definition of buyer assistance is treating your buyer well. Ahhh, yes we can agree with that but just treating your customers well is not good enough. We need clubs to go beyond treating their customers well.

Customer assistance in 2010 is a function of how well an society is able to constantly and consistently exceed the needs of the customer. If a firm today is not able to compete on buyer assistance delivery then it makes no sense entering the firm world. The firm would have missed the point and focus of what clubs should deliver to their customers. Firms today display on huge scrolls their mission statements and vision statements in their establishments. They express how fabulous the buyer is but somehow their delivery does not match up with the words.

On Wednesday March 3, 2010, my friend purchased two slices of cakes from Pastry Passions. They have outlets in Manor Park and Liguanea, all settled in Kingston, Jamaica. Later on, I opened the package, everything looks presentable, glanced a bit; it looked good so I began to partake. After eating two pieces I noticed that there was plastic below the icing. It is used for cakes like black forests - the one we bought. Clearly the personel who applied the icing forgot to take off the plastic.

I recognized then that this must have been a genuine mistake. I can't fathom a pastry outlet of the repute like Pastry Passions manufacture this mistake.

In a situation like this you either accept the mistake and the disservice as normal or you record the situation. It is sad that I was willing to condone and accept this mediocre assistance delivery from a firm when you have paid a nice chunk for a slice of cake. Many customers share this profile though. When something in the assistance delivery goes wrong they accept the wrong actions by the firm as normal when it is not. We need to reach a level where actions like these don't go unreported. We were so lackadaisical about it that I was able to convince my friend to eat the cake.

However, he decided to call Pastry Passions to record the case so that they were aware of the matter and that no one would be harmed. It would be sad and a bad tale to have a child swallow a piece of that plastic on the cake.

During the conversation, the representative from the firm becomes irate. Not over the fact that this incident could have happened at Pastry Passions but was angry that the someone reporting the matter had an attitude. This is a blatant violation and a condition risk that could bring the store ended and you are giving the buyer an attitude. I was upset because I startling great from Pastry Passions. They are all over the Jamaican media telling how good their cakes are blah blah blah. Truth be told, they aren't that good. Even their presentation sucks because the cakes on display are messed up, the icing does not hold up. So when habitancy can see flaws in your goods and still have the guts to cope it and buy your goods, giving an attitude should be the last thing on your mind. To bring everything home, honey, this was not a normal entry level worker dishing the attitude and insolent behaviour this is from one of the managers.

And that is the saddest part of the story. That a manager, who we will assume should know better, could have done this.

The night got great though. The cakes were returned. While in the Manor Park outlet of Pastry Passions the other manager stormed in, was angry that this situation all had happened. She apologized and it was accepted.

Customer assistance in Jamaica is at its lowest point. I think we have low regards for customers because as a habitancy we have no respect for people. There are a few good habitancy left. I wrote a blog post months ago that spoke about this topic. In it I shared great experiences I had, so I know great buyer assistance delivery can be reached.
