Todd Elik - The Oldest Active Ohl Grad?

The oldest Ontario Hockey League graduate is still active in the world of hockey? We think so. Todd Elik has recently turned 44 years young and has just closed his 22nd year in expert hockey for his 18th expert hockey team, Hk Acroni Jesenice.

Elik played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 1983-84 to 1985-86. Todd's first season was played in Kingston with the Canadians. His second season was split in the middle of the Canadians and the North Bay Centennials. His final season was spent with the Cents. 1986-87 was spent with the Canadian National Team.

Kingston

Todd's first season in expert hockey was spent with the Colorado Rangers of the Ihl. His 44 goals and 100 points were good sufficient to lead the team but were not sufficient to earn him rookie of the year, which was shared in the middle of Ed Belfour and John Cullen.

Elik's Nhl career spanned 448 games with the Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota North Stars, Edmonton Oilers, San Jose Sharks, St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins. Todd made the jump to European pro hockey in 1997-98 and has since remained in the whether the Swiss National A, Swiss National B and Austria's Erste Bank Eishockey Liga.

This past season, Todd played his first season with Hk Acroni Jesenice of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. Jesenice is a town in the Northwest corner of Slovenia on the border with Austria. The team plays out of the 4,000 seat Dvorana Podmezakla. The team closed 9th in the 10 team league this past season. Elik played like a 20 year old with 37 points in just 29 games. He has been well over a point-per-game player since entertaining to Europe.

Reggae Ambassadors - Third World

With a obvious sense of purpose, Third World, rightfully dubbed The Reggae Ambassadors, will celebrate its 35th anniversary in December, 2008! another of my very favorite reggae bands who I have enjoyed live on many occasions, Third World is one of the longest-lived reggae bands of all time. Criticized by reggae purists as too commercial, this legendary group of talented musicians manages to remain favorite with their international audiences because their inventive music is all the time fresh and creative.  They take risks and experiment, stretching the basic foundation of roots reggae. It is this imagination, and their superior capabilities to make music in its discrete forms (reggae, R&B, funk, pop, African, Latin, rock, dancehall and even rap) that inspires and endears them to their fans around the world.

Unlike many of the self-taught greats of Jamaica's reggae scene, some of these guys indeed had classical and quite diverse music training. The group was founded in 1973 by Michael "Ibo" Cooper (born January 14, 1955, in Kingston, Jamaica), a policeman's son who received formal training on a variety of keyboard instruments at Kingston's Royal School of Music, and Stephen "Cat" Coore (born April 6, 1959, in Kingston), whose father served as deputy prime priest of Jamaica and who first learned to play stringed instruments from his preeminent music instructor mother. He was trained at Forster Davis School of Music in Jamaica where he gained a credit as a prodigy for his amazing talent on the cello. Both artists had played individually on the Kingston reggae circuit but first worked together when they joined the prosperous Kingston group, Inner Circle, in 1968.

Kingston

Deciding to attack out on their own, Cooper, Coore and Inner Circle's vocalist Milton "Prilly" Hamilton completed their band with Richie Daley, a self-taught bassist. They recruited drummer Carl Barovier (who was supplanted by Cornel Marshal) and percussionist Irwin "Carrot" Jarrett who had comprehensive expert sense with concerts and Tv. Third World made its live debut with a carrying out at Jamaica's independence celebration in 1973.

Third World made a name for itself on the Kingston club scene as a fully self-contained band; a rarity because most labels in Jamaica were operated by sound systems while Third World had all its own musicians on hand.  They did this so they could accomplish wherever they wanted rather than enduringly scrambling for musicians or a sound ideas to preserve their singing. But this made it difficult to land a article deal so they toured England where the reggae sound was becoming popular, and released their debut single railroad Track in 1974, subsequently signing a deal with Island Records. Island sent them on a European tour as the opening act for Bob Marley & the Wailers.

1976 saw the publish of Third World's self-titled debut album which included a cover of the roots superior Satta Massagana by the Abyssinians. Their follow-up was 1977's 96° in the Shade, which introduced their new drummer, Willie "Roots" Stewart, and a new lead singer, William "Bunny Rugs" Clarke. That title track is an all-time reggae superior and the album was a huge critical success. But Third World's breakthrough favorite album was 1978's Journey to Addis, which featured a funkified reggae cover of Now That We Found Love by the O'Jays. The single was a crossover hit that grabbed listeners who didn't normally buy reggae albums. Along with the follow-up single Cool Meditation, Third World was launched to international stardom when they hit the Us R&B charts and the British pop Top 10.

After releasing three more albums with island, Third World moved to Columbia in the early 1980s, believing they would get more attentiveness if they weren't competing with Island's star act, Marley. While with Columbia they released 5 albums over the next 7 years, with critical success on the U.S. And U.K. Charts. About this time they began collaborating with Stevie Wonder, who helped them form their crossover sound. Reggae was favorite with mostly white audiences in Britain and America and Wonder's preserve helped them gain the ear of black audiences as well, hitting the Us R&B charts in particular.

Third World's success continued straight through the 1980s and into the 1990s with several label changes (Cbs, Mercury) and the publish of many more albums with crossover hits that reached the R&B, pop and dance charts and added to their international stature. Jarrett left the band while this time and was supplanted by Rupert "Gypsy" Bent Iii. In 1997, founding member Cooper (replaced by keyboardist Leroy "Baarbe" Romans who was later supplanted by Herbie Harris) and Stewart (replaced by drummer Tony "Ruption" Williams) also departed.

Sometimes accused by critics of being sell-outs, Third World wanted to make their music accessible to wider audiences - to report tasteless people all over the world, not just in their own country. They challenged the limitations of their genre and were the first reggae act to add funk and use a synthesizer. They had one of the first commercially prosperous fusions of reggae and rap. They were instrumental in popularizing dub poetry, which became the basis for dancehall. And they forayed into American hip-hop. The reggae-hip-hop combo breathed new life into reggae in Jamaica and abroad. The talented Third World musicians have all the time been innovators, refusing to limit the infinite possibilities of their music. If you want to hear just one beautiful piece of music, listen to Cat Coore's carrying out on the cello on Symphony Rastafari.

Awarded the Medal of Peace by the United Nations for their contributions to African causes, they were invited guests at a tribute to Nelson Mandela in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1990. They were awarded the keys to the City of Key West, Florida. And just this month (October 2008), they were honored with 6 legal proclamations from the City of Los Angeles, the Governor's Office of the State of California, the California State Senate, and the Mayor of Los Angeles, at Charles Drew University of treatment and Science in Los Angeles, California in celebration of the group's 35th anniversary. In addition, each member of the group was presented with his own plaque honoring him with the 2008 Jazz at Drew Lifetime Achievement Award.

Third World continues to evolve and to tour worldwide. Currently back in the studio working on their 20th album, they plan to end 2008 with a big anniversary celebration in December down in Jamaica. Keep them coming - I, for one, can never get enough!

Why Spring Clean Your Clutter With Feng Shui

Clutter, clutter everywhere. Guilty as charged. That was sometime ago.

Feng Shui is the old Chinese art of placement, the art of applying the theory of balance in the home or workplace and outdoors to assert and harmonize the energies in these areas. Natural energies flow in and colse to your surroundings, in everything colse to you. Like it or not, these energies exert influence on your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual life. An scholar or pro Feng Shui practitioner is not required. Books on Feng Shui are abundant. The most important element is an honest commitment to improve your space and promote the flow of positive energies

Kingston

Clutter is an obstacle:

Clutter invites negative energy. It presents an obstacle to the flow of positive energy. Feng Shui presents a diagram of the home- show areas of prosperity, house life, career, health, and other aspects of life. It swept straight through the western world a decade back, it became a fad. Applying some of the theory of Feng Shui can improve peace and harmony in your home, and finally brings peace, prosperity and harmony to your life.

Karen Kingston coined the word space-clearing and she holds seminars on this field and has written a book on this. It is the art of clearing and consecrating energies in buildings, where she explains that for your life to work well, it is vital to keep the positive life force energy in the home, workplace and your surroundings. It is a waste of time to sort straight through clutter for an object- thus a negative energy. Clutter also speaks of blurring that goes colse to the space. Clutter is a indication of illness of what goes on in your life. The more clutter colse to you, the more negative energy accumulates. The sight of dirt, dust and grime is unpleasant, unwelcoming and is home to stagnant energy.

Clutter comes from:

things that you do not use, or keep 'just in case,'
things that are untidy and disorganized
having too much stuff and not adequate space for it
unfinished business, projects on hold or forgotten

Everything you have, everything that you own is related to you by fine threads of energy. When something you own gives you joy, it increases your energy. Likewise, something you have no use for or is forgotten carries stuck, negative energy and shares this with you. It is a reliance that you leave imprints of your personal energy in your home, in the space that you occupy. If you move to a home that experienced love, peace and harmony, part of these will have an influence on your life.

Negative impact of clutter

Being disorganized wastes time and can deplete energy. Clutter also keeps you wrapped up in the past.,makes it difficult to move forward. It does not make sense to hold on to mementos of the past- these acquire dust, takes up space and holds you back every time you look at it. It does not mean that you totally get rid of every memento. Sort out the ones that is most costly to you and let go of the rest. A home that is filled with clutter makes the place look congested. This mirrors back to you, blocks the flow of energy and can make you feel sluggish with lack of motivation to do whatever about it. Clutter pours out negative or stale energy that can soon wrap itself colse to you.

When citizen visit, you feel embarrassed about your mess. It does not give a good impression. This can deplete your self-esteem. You tend to neglect your responsibilities, find it difficult to be on top or in control of the game of Life. You find it easier to procrastinate. Disharmony seem to be an uninvited guest in your home and makes room for depression.

Clutter also raises issues of safety.

No matter how much advice you get about de-cluttering, the only one who can control this is you. There are books to walk you straight through the steps of getting rid of clutter, most importantly, where to start the process. The internet offers articles on the subject. But you alone can do this, give it a try and you may be surprised at how much boost your energy gets from de-cluttering. Find the motivation to start the scheme of organizing your space.

Your home and how you take care of it reflects how you take care of yourself and defines you. A warm, tidy and a welcoming home stimulates the flow of positive energy that you share with your guests.

Jamaican Blue Mountains: Celebrate Your Love of travel and Coffee!

Are you a coffee lover that also loves to travel? You can start out by celebrating your love of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee in Jamaica, home of the gorgeous Blue Mountains.

Jamaica has quite a few places to visit while you are there, beginning with Kingston. Kingston is a major hub in Jamaica, making it the exquisite vacation spot for cultural and art enthusiasts. Kingston is de facto the political, economic, and collective capital of Jamaica. If you want to see authentic Jamaican art, you can check out the Mutual Life Gallery to begin. There are exhibitions that convert on a monthly basis, and there are also long-term exhibitions available for viewing. Kingston also offers authentic dining in the form of Thai and African food to satisfy your palate while you are there.

Kingston

If you want to get closer to the beach and sparkling blue water, you can check out Negril, where you will find it crystal clear water, black cliffs, and a mellow and relaxing location. This is the exquisite spot to vacation to see true beauty and authentic culture in Jamaica. There is a Sandals Resort at that location if you want to stay in an all-inclusive hotel, or you can also visit Cousins Cove, a small inlet on the coast that doesn't see many tourists.

Last of all, you can desist your time in Jamaica by hiking to the peak of the Blue Mountains, which is where the exclusive coffee of the same name is grown. As a coffee lover, you may already be customary with the fact that Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is quite expensive and exclusive because it is grown at a higher altitude of over 7000 feet in lush and fertile climates. This allows the coffee beans to grow slowly and cultivate even deeper flavors, which are reflected in a vibrant and memorable cup of Joe.

For a truly authentic Jamaican sense that celebrates your love of coffee, you can hike 7 miles up to the peak of the Blue Mountains, which has an altitude of 7402 feet. This is the highest peak on the island of Jamaica, and the hike itself is narrow and steep. On a completely clear day, you will be able to see it Port Antonio?s Navy Island, Bath Bay, and Kingston from the top of the mountain. You may even be able to make out the small shadow of Cuba, located 90 miles north of Jamaica. This 14 mile trail should take about seven hours, and it is best to started early in the morning so that you can reach the gorgeous view at the top of the mountain by sunrise. After that, you are welcomed to desist up your day sipping on an authentic and tasty cup of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee while you are there. How to Avoid Buying Fake Memory Cards on eBay

Out of all counterfeit products sold throughout the world, fake memory cards form a separate category. Manufacturing counterfeit bags, belts, wallets etc. Involves the use of machinery, skilled work, and distributing them is difficult due to shipping costs. With memory cards, it's different. All it takes is to reprogram memory chip. Devices used for that purpose do it with dozens of cards at once, the process taking only meager seconds.

How a fake memory card is made?

Kingston

Usually cheap, often faulty cards with very minuscule actual storage (2 Gb, 4 Gb, rarely more) are used. Labels with authentic look and feel are glued to these cards. New labels carry logos of reputable brands (like Sandisk, Transcend, Panasonic, Kingston etc) and advertise high class, high capacity storage. For example, a 32 Gb Sdhc card of Class 10. Then reprogramming is performed. The goal is to change bits of data that are available to Operating principles and cameras. Digits indicating true storage capacity are replaced with false information. So, when a reprogrammed memory card is inserted into a card reader, operating principles (say, Windows) sees it as a 32 Gb drive. Operating principles has no way to know if the chip inside the card has been reprogrammed.

Selling fakes is even easier than producing them (while the latter isn't any difficult at all, as you see). Online auction sites are favored by dishonest sellers. No matter how spoton eBay is about counterfeit items, fake memory cards are sold there in large quantities.

Buyers are attracted by low prices, sure. But even experienced and savvy eBay users get trapped. They look at seller's catalogue to see if it is freshly created or old enough. They scroll through feedback left by other customers to see if anyone got vexed after purchasing similar items. They ask seeder and receive reassuring response. All in all, it looks like a deal.

The truth is, it is next to impossible to define if Sd/Sdhc/Sdxc/Cf card listed for sale is genuine or not. They are sold by sellers from Us and Uk (and they dispatch items from addresses in Us and Uk, too!) Customers who received fake memory cards in their mail box very often leave... inevitable feedback. You might not believe me but the infer is simple: people are unaware of a rip-off. They duly check memory cards in Windows which report false capacity. They format it and start using. No matter how slow card is, no matter how much data is lost from the very first day if use, few owners will infer they have been sold a fake.
Surprisingly, it is not that easy to find out if memory card is counterfeit. Most software used for testing Usb storage devices will only check reading/writing speeds, but not actual storage capacity.

Nevertheless you can run a fast and easy-to-do test to see if your memory card is authentic. Just copy a single large file (preferably over 4 Gb) to a card (if you card is Fat32 formatted, then use 2 files 2 Gb each). And when copying is complete, copy it back to your hard drive. Then try to play what has been copied to hard drive. Only genuine card with advertised capacity being true will not damage the file. If there pop up any errors while copy process, if the file after being copied twice is not playable (cannot be opened in connected software) then it's obvious you are keeping a fake memory card in your hands.

The True Story of the Puggle

History Of The Puggle

The Puggle is not a hybrid dog. It is not a baby Echidna or a baby Platypus which are both monotremes from Australia.

Kingston

1970's

The Puggle character has been colse to since the mid 1970's. It is a toy character from The Lost Forests. Puggle is a registered trademark owned by The Lost Forests group in Australia.
http://www.thelostforests.com.au

Dogs

Puggles are a relatively new type of hybrid dog breed; the first puggles ever bred were in 2000 by a breeder named Wallace Havens, owner and operator of Puppy Haven Kennels in Kingston, Wisconsin. The puggle is not purebred; it is a cross of a purebred Beagle mum and a purebred Pug father. The hybrid puggle is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid club.

Baby Platypus And Echidna

Information from the Australian Platypus Conservatory about the Puggle
Dr Shaw, in his scientific article of 1799, gave the name Platypus anatinus, from Greek and Latin words meaning "flat-footed, duck-like". However, when it became known that Platypus had already been used to name a group of beetles, a new term had to be adopted. The valid scientific name became and remains Ornithorhynchus anatinus, with the first word meaning "bird-like snout".

Although the name "duckbill" was widely used as a favorite article for the animal, the abandoned scientific name "platypus" gradually became the accepted base name for the species.

The preferred plural of platypus is whether "platypus" or "platypuses", depending on which dictionary you consult. (We use the former for the sake of simplicity.) The term "platypi" is no longer determined to be valid.

There is no accepted term - equivalent to pup or cub - to tell a baby platypus. One possible name recently recommend is a "platypup".

In new years, the inappropriate word "puggles" for baby platypus has been generally used. This term was applied to baby echidnas some years ago because of their resemblance to Puggles, an American soft-toy character. (It is understood that the toy enterprise involved may have determined legal activity to safe its registered trade-mark in relation to unauthorised usage). For some reason, this name is now being applied to baby platypus. This is both ill-informed (baby platypus and echidnas don't look very much alike, once they get past the first post-hatching "jelly-bean" stage, and so baby platypus don't much look as if Puggles) and perhaps illegal. Http://www.thelostforests.com.au

Aborigine Legend

According to Aboriginal legend, the first platypus was born after a young female duck mated with a lonely and persuasive water-rat. The duck's offspring had their mother's bill and webbed feet and their father's four legs and handsome brown fur.

The real (true) story of the Puggle from The Lost Forests

Once upon a time there were four million, three thousand, two hundred and one ... Puggles, but now there are only a few bagfuls left, just like this one. Puggles lived in the Australian bush under the ground in tunnels. They came out of their holes at night to feed on their favourite tucker, split peas! All night long they would Puggle up every pea they could find, and as daylight approached, it would "dawn" on them that they had to get back home.

Waiting for them at their front doors would be the local people, (which is why they were called "early settlers"). Of procedure the Puggles had stuffed themselves so full of split peas that they couldn't get down their holes and became stuck with their bottoms at the top, manufacture them easy prey for the people who just loved Puggle pie.

So that is why, last thing at night, tie it up tightly and don't let it out until the morning. This way the Puggles will not come to be extinct and maybe one day there will be as many Puggles as before ...

Albany - One of the Oldest Cities in the Us

There are only three cities in the Usa that are older than the New York State capital of Albany: Santa Fe, St. Augustine and Jamestown. With a long and colourful heritage, historic Albany was given its city rent way back in 1686. First known by the charming Native American name of Penpotawotnot, Albany is located 136 miles north of New York City in the heart of New York State.

The area colse to Albany was originally claimed by Henry Hudson on profit of the Dutch East India enterprise in 1609. The Dutch built Fort Orange, which the English later took in 1664 and renamed Albany in honour of James Ii, then Duke of Albany who later became King.

Kingston

Albany became State capital of New York in 1777 taking over the mantle from Kingston, some 50 miles to the north. The city has developed largely due to its prominent location next to the Hudson River. Once the Eire Canal was completed in 1825, it located Albany on a direct water route from New York City to the Great Lakes. It is in a prime location, also known as the 'crossroads city' due to the fact that it's almost equidistant between the immense conurbations of New York, Montreal, Boston and Buffalo.

The Albany skyline is dominated by the 589-feet high Erastus Corning Tower of the Empire State Plaza. Conceived and named after New York State Governor Nelson Rockefeller, the Plaza was built between 1965 and 1978, and also includes four smaller towers and 'The Egg'. This is the focal point for live entertainment, acting as the city's contemporary arts theatre. colse to the Times Union Centre provides an even bigger venue for large name Us and international bands, as well as staging many local society gatherings and trade shows. Albany is well-known for its nightlife and boasts a 4 am last call, as opposed to 2 am in most other Us cities.

If you are planning a driving vacation colse to New York State make sure that you allow time for a visit to the historic State Capital - you won't be disappointed. Albany is a popular place to visit all year round but its outlying areas are particularly picturesque in the autumn. Despite its popularity, it is not difficult to book into a top hotel in Albany at most times of the year. And to get the best out of your stay, look to stay near the airport from where you'll be able to authentically visit the best the city has to offer.

Hiring A Man With A Van To Help You Move

Hiring a man and van when you're engaging products and goods can be an excellent idea. It has several benefits and advantages that a wide range of citizen can put to good use during the hire.

Versatility

Kingston

It's very versatile in that both large and small items are made easy to move. From big pieces of furniture to the smallest pieces of tableware, these men with their vans can do it all. They know just how to pack all things expertly so nothing ever gets broken or ruined and damaged. Plus, no move is too short or too long for them. Unlike most major engaging companies, they'll even move you just colse to the projection if that's what you need, as precisely as they'll carry your products all the way across town. They also have different price points so their rates are very versatile as well. There's no one fixed, set amount to pay because they primarily use the exact same size vans for all of their moves large and small. This is unlike the major engaging associates who charge different rates based on the size of the huge truck being used as well as on the overall distance that you plan on engaging to.

Affordability

Because they're a small enterprise operation, they have to offer affordable fees to keep building up their buyer base. And they do exactly that. Their prices are based on how much needs to be moved and the size and weight of the items. But since all the vans they use are on the smaller side compared to the largest of major enterprise engaging trucks, they get much good gas mileage and they can then pass these cost savings onto their customers. Some of them even work on a sliding scale fee for citizen who can't afford the primary evaluation if it's a wee too high. This makes engaging even more affordable and personable to the someone complicated in the move. Overall, there's precisely nothing negative to say about these men and their vans for hire. They do a very pro job at an incredibly inexpensive and fair price.

Convenience

Unlike the largest of engaging companies, hiring a man and van is very straightforward and effortless. There's no long waiting time complicated between setting up the move to and from your locations and arranging the move. The man runs his operation as a small, locally owned enterprise and that makes the aid much more personal and convenient. You naturally caress him and tell the move to him and he'll provide you with quick, written evaluation of the price. citizen in the Uk who move use these kinds of men and their vans all the time because the aid is fast and you're treated like an prominent private instead of like some anonymous amount if you hired from a large engaging enterprise with huge trucks.
